This is so old fashioned that many of my internet marketing friends will probably laugh. But there is a reason why drop cards still exist and there’s a reason why many savvy marketers use them. They are easy, inexpensive and though they don’t have a high conversion rate, the people you do connect with are ones who are anxious to speak to you.
For you young ‘uns out there who don’t know about drop card, let me explain. A drop card is a card, business card sized or a bit larger. Often the cards look like million dollar bills on one side. Sometimes they are compelling in a different way, say if your ideal customer would be attracted to a particular look or color. You basically DROP THEM. On the card is an engaging question or statement and a call to action. The action is to call a number or visit a website. Personally, I like to use a phone number with an outgoing message recorded by me that is short and compelling and directs the customer to my website.
Drop card are very different than business cards. They are not what you hand to someone when you are speaking with them. They usually do not have your name on them, nor your regular business number. Drop cards are a little akin to the offline version of opt-in boxes. You DROP the cards in places where you expect your target market to be. A person finds the card. If they are intrigued by the short message, they “opt-in” by calling the number and leaving a message. The beauty of drop cards is that they take little skill do use well.
Anyone can use drop cards. When it come to meeting and greeting potential Body By Vi customers, there are many places to put drop cards. For instance: Inside library books that are focused on weight loss; or the same type of books at a book store; on the bulletin board at health food stores, or gyms; windshields of cars in the fitness center parking lot; etc…
Drop cards are inexpensive and require very little time out of your day. As I said before, the conversion factor is quite low. But if you spend one hour per week placing 100 cards, and doing so within the context of your daily travels, you might be pleasantly surprised.
