Walking in the Dark – A Metaphorical Story

A metaphorical story:

I was a bona fide Girl Scout for 10 years. I spent every summer fromgardiners_bay age nine until I was seventeen, at Girl Scout camp. Camp Blue Bay was located on a beautiful stretch of land at the end of Long Island, near East Hampton (now home to the rich and famous). Back in the late sixties, East Hampton was a sleepy little fishing village with a penny candy store, a movie theater, grocery, a few bars and many bait & tackle shops. Blue Bay was situated directly on the beach bordering Gardiner’s Bay. The camp existed until about four years ago, when it was sold (probably to land developers–Boo Hoo).

Once you walked inland off the beach, camp was heavily wooded. All the paths through the woods from one unit (Tajars, Romany, Innisfree, and others) to the next and back to the dining hall, were light colored sand. Obviously as a youngster, flashlights were necessary. But at the years passed, the cool kids were the ones who didn’t need them.

If you walk through the woods at night with no light source, your eyes will become very accustomed to the dark. Even when there is no moon there is ambient light coming from the stars. In fact, even on the darkest of nights it is possible to walk swiftly and securely on paths through the woods without using a flashlight. Seeing the path is mixture of your eyes and your intuition and looking in the direction you are heading — never looking down — always trusting your feet.

What’s funny is that you can actually “see” and sense so much more this way, than you can if you use a light. In fact, if you turn on a flashlight you clearly illuminate a small round area — but the bigger picture goes completely dark and ceases to exist. You can no longer sense or see trees, the sky or people coming towards you until they step into your beam. Another cool fact — you don’t even hear as well, with the flashlight turned on.

Blogging and the Triangle of Trust

People do business with people they know, trust and like.

How does this translate to your blog, the center piece of your online marketing efforts?

When you develop relationships with people offline, you do so with a give and take sharing of information. The connection builds through the sharing of value, ideas, experiences. Your blog allows you do the same thing online. Relationships are developed with your readers and if you offer them delightful tidbits that feed their needs and their soul, they will come back again and again to hear what you have to say.

Learning how to be a good blogger is crucial to a successful online presence. You can be excellent at PPC (pay per click) and other forms of advertising, but you lack an online home if you don’t have a blog. People want to know about you. They want to feel good about the person they are doing business with.

Often I’ve clicked on a PPC ad, and landed on someone’s opt-in page. What do I do then? I search around to try and find out who owns and page. I google them and see who they are and what is the essence of their message. If I like what I see, I go back to the initial landing page and opt-in. If I don’t find a blog where I can get a feel for the person, chances are I won’t opt-in to their list.

You may have heard me talk about my friend Ann Sieg. Of all the Ann Sieg & Deborahstrong leaders in the online network marketing world, Ann stands out for many reasons. She is a mature woman who has raised her children with many of the same values that I bring to my family. She is sincere and steadfast in her convictions. And she is an intelligent and powerful business woman. I always enjoy our conversations, whether in person or on the phone.

I like this video that Ann just sent me about the power of blogging. I think you’ll like it too.

Women’s Right To Vote – Only 90 Years Ago They Were Jailed

This is the story of our Mothers and Grandmothers who lived only 90 years ago. ATT00001

Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

ATT00001

The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote.

And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison ATT00003guards wielding clubs and their warden’s blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of

‘obstructing sidewalk traffic’.
They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.

ATT00004

(Dora Lewis)
They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional
affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging,
beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.

Thus unfolded the ‘Night of Terror’ on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson’s White House for the right to vote. For weeks, the
women’s only water came from an open pail.

Network Marketing Pendulum is Swinging

As the plethora of product launches and opt-in offers increases exponentially, the scent of change is in the air. Many are saying “enough is enough” and with that, culling their inbox access to just a select few.

The idea that anyone can build a big list, is an idea that has many more challenges today than it did just three or four years ago. Scary thought for everyone who has hung their hat on the big list/Me, Inc method of building their network marketing organization. In just the past four days I’ve received numerous emails from colleagues talking about all the “lists” that they are opting out of, and all the monthly fees that they are realizing go to programs that they don’t even have time to access.

The network marketing pendulum is swinging again; this time it’s going to back to a core truth that may have gotten lost temporarily in the big list – Me, Inc., – info product launching frenzy of the past few years. What’s the truth?

This is your Brain on Computers

A recent article in the NY Times highlighted real time examples and social-mediaresearch related to the internet and multi-tasking. What was particularly intriguing about the information shared, was that our super-busy multi-tasking electronic environment only gives the appearance of being more productive. In reality, less is accomplished and the deep focus necessary for creative endeavors is often hard to access. Read the article at the link below.

What’s the BIG DEAL re: MLM Launch Formula?

Launches are coming at you a mile a minute these days..and MLM Launch Formula is one of them. What really is going on with all of these launches?

It’s a good and necessary question for any serious marketer to be asking. Each time we are confronted with the “next best thing” in terms of a program; a launch; a course; a training, etc…it has the potential to distract us from the laser focus that is needed for true income and success. On the other hand, the very best trainings and courses also have the potential to skyrocket our efforts through advanced ideas, techniques and information. One has to be discerning, and yet the very best marketers make it hard to turn away.

What’s been happening in the industry is that many more people are beginning to realize that you need to eventually marketing your own product and to do so through some type of “launch”, in order to make it into the big leagues. Even if you are content to keep things to on a smaller level, creating your own information and training products allows you much greater leverage of your time and energy as well as a better branding platform all around. This is not new advice. Ann Sieg spoke about this exact thing back in 2007 when The Renegade Network Marketer was first published.

Katie Freiling recently had a phenomenal launch with her Unified Tribe, Community With Purpose. She has become a rising star not only because of the UT, but because of the true value she provides to the entire industry through this Collaboration and Syndication platform. Katie recently wrote a wonderful post about how and why to create a rocking launch scenerio for anything you want to bring to the market place.

The very best course I’ve ever taken in this industry,

The REALEST Daily Success Strategy

Those on my lists (join in the upper right corner of this page) enjoy receiving a short daily strategy quote every day. I love putting them up and reading them when they land in my inbox a few days later.

Today I returned from five days of traveling with my daughter. We traded the still cool air of the high Rocky Mountains for almost 100 degree summer heat in mid-Texas. It was a good trade for those of us tired of still wearing sweatshirts and fleece. The trip, being of an intense family variety, left no time for computers or writing. The preparation left me behind in setting up my daily strategies to be sent out in my absence.

Do I feel bad? Yes. I even struggled for a time with working on the computer in the hotel lobby, rather than engaging in the here and now. In the end, I chose to be present. 100% fully present. And that, is the realest daily success strategy I can share with you.

In our busy multitasking world, it has become a rare thing indeed to stay focused on the details of each and every moment. That’s what I did on this trip. I stayed in the present; stayed in the moment. It reminded me what a gift it is to give oneself fully to the events and emotions inherent in each minute of the day. It reminded me that the same focus is so crucial in our business life, as well as our personal.

The REALEST daily success strategy? Be mindful in all that you do. Give attention the those you are with. Bring your entire self with you, when you engage with others.
